Our Students and Families

Horizons Bridgeport serves students from Bridgeport public and parochial schools who qualify for free- or reduced-price lunch, and who are identified by their teachers as students who would benefit from long-term participation in an extended learning program. When students first arrive at Horizons, roughly two-thirds are performing below grade level. Horizons helps to foster students’ innate curiosity, love of learning, and their sense of self-confidence. The vast majority of our students return to school in the fall well ahead of where they left off the previous year.

Horizons programs recognize that achieving healthy adulthood is not a short-term endeavor, and that one- or two-year interventions will not be effective for most children. By engaging students at a very young age, making a commitment to them for the duration of their pre-college education, and providing a support system, we position children to become adults who thrive. Families make a commitment to Horizons, and Horizons makes a commitment to families.
